Overview
Completed in 1868, this Russian Orthodox cathedral features 13 golden domes and a striking red-brick facade — the largest Orthodox church in Northern Europe. It stands on a hill on the Katajanokka peninsula, overlooking Helsinki and its harbor. The cathedral testifies to Finland's time as part of the Russian Empire (1809-1917) and houses lavish Byzantine-style icons and mosaics. Together with Helsinki Cathedral, it's one of the city's two great cathedrals. Free entry. 5-minute walk from Tram 4/5 Tove Janssonin puisto stop.
Opening Hours
Tue-Fri 09:30-16:00; Sat 10:00-15:00; Sun 12:00-15:00 (closed Mondays).
