Overview
Created in 1967 by sculptor Eila Hiltunen, this monument welds together more than 600 stainless-steel pipes in a wave-like formation. It honors Finland's national composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), and its organ-pipe silhouette symbolizes his musical legacy. A separate sculpture of Sibelius's face stands alongside the main piece. Set among the birch trees of Sibelius Park, it takes on a different mood with each season and is one of Helsinki's most photographed sights.
