Overview
Completed in 1916 in National Romantic style with a castle-like silhouette, the building was designed by architects including Eliel Saarinen. Exhibits span the whole of Finnish history, from prehistoric artifacts through Swedish and Russian rule to independence and the modern era. The lobby ceiling is decorated with frescoes of the Kalevala epic by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, making the building itself a work of art. The Sami traditional costume and craft collection is also a highlight.
Travel Tips
