Overview
Opened in 1995, this unique museum combines 14th-16th century medieval Turku ruins in the basement with a contemporary art museum upstairs. Discovered by accident during excavation, the medieval ruins reveal narrow streets, building foundations, wells, and pottery fragments — letting you experience life in Turku 600 years ago with guided commentary. Upstairs at Ars Nova, rotating Finnish and international contemporary art exhibitions are on display. Combined admission about EUR 12. Located on the Aura riverbank in central Turku.
Opening Hours
11:00-19:00 (closed Mondays; varies seasonally).
Travel Tips
The medieval underground ruins are even better with a guided tour. The combined ticket at the entrance offers the best value.
