Overview
Completed in 1846, St. Alexandra's Orthodox Church was dedicated to Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna during the era when Finland was a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire. Its red-brick facade and golden Byzantine domes contrast sharply with the Lutheran style of Turku Cathedral, and the interior's elaborate iconostasis and candlelight create a mystical Orthodox atmosphere. It remains an active place of worship for Finland's Orthodox community and Russian-speaking residents.
