Overview
This open-air museum preserves an 18th-19th century wooden neighborhood that miraculously survived the 1827 fire that destroyed three-quarters of Turku. Opened in 1940, its roughly 30 wooden houses and gardens remain largely untouched, making it one of Europe's finest preserved wooden-architecture districts. In summer, costumed craftspeople demonstrate glassblowing, shoemaking, printing, and other traditional trades, and the prestigious Sibelius-adjacent Finlandia Prize in music is awarded here each June.
