Overview
Opened in 1967 on the banks of the Aura River, this museum centers on the work of Wäinö Aaltonen (1894-1966), a Turku-born sculptor considered one of Finland's national artists. Aaltonen is famed for his portrait sculptures of composer Sibelius and running legend Paavo Nurmi; the museum displays his bronze and marble works alongside a collection of modern Finnish paintings gathered by the Turku Art Society. Located on the riverside path toward Turku Castle, it's an easy stop along the way.
