Overview
Edinburgh Castle is Scotland's iconic fortress, set atop an extinct volcano and carrying roughly 900 years of history. Inside it holds the Honours of Scotland (the Scottish Crown Jewels) and the Stone of Destiny, and the One O'Clock Gun fired daily at 13:00 is a long-standing Edinburgh tradition. St Margaret's Chapel within the walls is the oldest surviving building in the city, and the views over Edinburgh from the ramparts are spectacular. Adult admission about GBP 19.50 (discount for online booking). 15-minute uphill walk from Princes Street tram stop.
