Opened in 1913 and run by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Edinburgh Zoo spreads across 82 hectares on the gentle slopes of Corstorphine Hill. It made headlines as the only UK zoo to house giant pandas from 2011 to 2023, and remains famous for its Penguin Parade and conservation programs for endangered species. It offers plenty of hands-on activities for families. Adult admission about GBP 25. About 20 minutes by bus from the city centre.
