Overview
The Royal Mile runs about 1.6 km (one Scots mile) from Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Narrow medieval alleys called closes branch off on either side, and the route passes major sights like St Giles' Cathedral and the National Museum of Scotland.
