Opened in 1859 in a Neoclassical building overlooking Princes Street Gardens on The Mound, the Scottish National Gallery holds a sweeping collection from Renaissance to Post-Impressionist Europe, including works by Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Monet, and Van Gogh. Scottish painters are also well represented, offering insight into the country's own art history. Free permanent collection (special exhibitions extra). 3-minute walk from Princes Street.
