Overview
Built between 1840 and 1846 to honor Sir Walter Scott, author of 'Ivanhoe' and Scotland's national writer, this is the second-largest monument to a writer in the world. Constructed of dark, weathered sandstone in Victorian Gothic style, the spire is an iconic landmark in Princes Street Gardens, and climbing its 287 narrow spiral steps rewards visitors with sweeping views of Edinburgh and the castle. Adult admission about GBP 8. Located in the heart of Princes Street.
