Overview
Legend holds that England's Richard the Lionheart, shipwrecked off Dubrovnik while returning from the Third Crusade, funded the cathedral's construction in gratitude for his rescue. The current Baroque building was rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake and houses Titian's altarpiece of the Assumption of the Virgin. The cathedral treasury preserves a 12th-century Byzantine-style reliquary holding the relics of St. Blaise, Dubrovnik's patron saint, carried in procession each February on his feast day. Cathedral free (treasury about EUR 4). 2-minute walk from the eastern end of Stradun.
