St. Blaise's Church

Old Town, Dubrovnik

Overview

Built in the early 18th century (around 1715) by Venetian architect Marino Gropelli to honor St. Blaise, Dubrovnik's patron saint, this Baroque church replaced an earlier Romanesque church destroyed by fire. Its stepped marble entrance and gracefully curved facade harmonize beautifully with Stradun, and the altar holds a silver statue of St. Blaise cradling a model of Dubrovnik's old town. Every February 3rd, the saint's feast day brings a major festival — recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage — to the square outside. Free entry. Right next to the eastern end of Stradun.

Opening Hours

08:00-19:00 (limited access during mass)
