Overview
Construction began in 1463 to counter Ottoman and Venetian threats, and the fortress was completed in 1549 as the key defense point on Dubrovnik's eastern side. With thick walls and a broad terraced design, it's considered the city's sturdiest fortress, positioned between Ploče Gate and the walls to guard the old harbor. Its spacious rooftop terrace serves as a major open-air stage for the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and offers views over the Adriatic and Old Town rooftops. Admission included with the city walls ticket. Near Ploče Gate.
