Overview
Designed in 1438 by Italian architect Onofrio della Cava, this large 16-sided fountain is Stradun's western landmark. It was built to supply the city with clean drinking water via an aqueduct from a source 12 km away. Once richly ornamented, the 1667 earthquake destroyed most of the sculptures, leaving only 16 carved face reliefs. Water still flows, and visitors wash their hands or take a drink while using it as a meeting point. Free. 1-minute walk from Pile Gate.
