Designed in 1895 by Austrian architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer in Neo-Baroque style, the theatre was inaugurated with Emperor Franz Joseph I himself in attendance. In front of the entrance stands Ivan Meštrović's sculpture 'The Well of Life,' a popular photo spot. Opera, ballet, and theatre productions run year-round, and the ornate interior is worth seeing on its own. Affordable tickets make it an accessible cultural experience for travelers. 10-minute walk from Ban Jelačić Square.
