Overview
Built in the 13th century, this landmark in Zagreb's Upper Town is famous for the coats of arms of Croatia and Zagreb rendered in vibrant mosaic tiles on its roof. The church evolved from Romanesque to Gothic over several renovations, and the 15 sculptures on its south portal are particularly fine. The square is also Croatia's political heart, home to the Parliament and government offices. The roof's tile pattern is one of Zagreb's most iconic images. Exterior free (interior open only during mass). Take the funicular to the Upper Town, then 5-minute walk.
Opening Hours
Exterior open anytime (interior: only during mass)
Travel Tips
The interior opens only during mass, so plan to admire the exterior. A cannon fires daily at noon from the nearby Lotrscak Tower.
