Overview
Built in the 13th century as one of Zagreb's Upper Town gates, Stone Gate became a pilgrimage site after a 1731 fire destroyed the surrounding structure but miraculously left a painting of the Virgin Mary inside untouched. A small chapel now houses the painting within the archway, where worshippers light candles and pray at all hours. Ornamental iron grille artwork adds further visual interest. Free to visit. 2-minute walk from St. Mark's Church.
