Overview
Built in 1765, this Baroque university building houses Hungary's only Camera Obscura in its tower. Using lenses and mirrors, the 200-year-old device projects a live panorama of Eger onto a round table — a remarkable piece of still-functioning scientific equipment. The library holds over 130,000 volumes, including handmade astronomical instruments and rare books. An astronomy museum and observation deck are in the same building. Admission about HUF 2,000. 3-minute walk from Dobó István Square.
Opening Hours
Tue-Sun 09:30-15:30 (until 17:30 Apr-Sep; closed Mondays)
Travel Tips
The Camera Obscura only works on clear days. Don't miss the trompe-l'oeil ceiling painting in the library.
