Overview
Where the River Corrib meets Galway Bay, this former Gaelic-speaking fishing village once functioned as its own community, even electing its own 'king.' It's the birthplace of the world-famous Claddagh Ring - two hands holding a crowned heart - still handcrafted at jewelers around Galway today. The thatched cottages of the old village were demolished in the 1930s, but the peaceful riverside walk and resident swans remain. Free entry. 5-minute walk from the Spanish Arch.
