Overview
Erected around 3800-3200 BC, this Neolithic portal tomb stands iconically on the gray limestone pavement of the stark Burren karst landscape. Excavations in the 1980s uncovered the remains of at least 22 people, including children, identified as members of a Neolithic farming and herding community. Standing dramatically on seemingly barren ground amid unusual karst formations, it's one of Ireland's most photographed prehistoric sites. Free entry. About 1 hour from Galway by car.
