Overview
Crawford Market (officially Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market), opened in 1869 during the British colonial era, was Mumbai's first municipal market, housed in a Norman-Gothic red sandstone building. It's packed with vendors selling spices, fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, and pet supplies, and its main entrance still bears a relief carved by Rudyard Kipling's father. The lively, crowded atmosphere offers a taste of Mumbai's everyday economy. Free entry.
