Overview
Completed in 2009, the Global Vipassana Pagoda is a meditation center modeled on Myanmar's Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, and is one of the world's largest pillarless stone domes. Its central hall can hold around 8,000 people for meditation, and it enshrines relics said to be of the Buddha. Located on an island near Gorai Beach, it's reached by ferry and offers views of the Mumbai skyline and Arabian Sea.
Travel Tips
Plan it as a half-day trip combined with the Gorai ferry ride. Keep quiet inside the meditation hall.
