Overview
Tucked inside the Hozenji Yokocho alley just behind Dotonbori, Hozen-ji is a small temple founded in 1637. Its principal image, a statue of Fudo Myo-o, has been covered entirely in green moss after generations of worshippers splashed water on it while praying, earning it the nickname 'Mizukake Fudo' (water-splashing Fudo). The narrow, lantern-lit stone alley is lined with old-school teahouses and taverns, offering a quieter atmosphere than the flashy Dotonbori nearby. Free admission. A 5-minute walk from Namba Station (Midosuji Line).
