Overview
The Angel of Independence is a 36m victory column completed in 1910 to mark the centennial of Mexican independence, topped with a gilded bronze winged Victory statue. The base holds the remains of independence heroes, and the monument stands at the heart of Paseo de la Reforma as Mexico City's defining landmark - the gathering point for championship celebrations, protests, and festivals. Guided tours up the interior stairs to the viewing platform are available by reservation. Free to view from outside. 5 minutes on foot from Metrobus Insurgentes station.
