Overview
Teotihuacan is an ancient Mesoamerican city about 50 km northeast of Mexico City. Founded around 100 BC, by the 6th century it housed up to 200,000 people, making it the largest city in the Americas. Its highlights include the 65 m Pyramid of the Sun and the 43 m Pyramid of the Moon, with monumental structures lining the Avenue of the Dead. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the civilization's true origins remain a mystery, giving the ruins an enduring sense of wonder.
