Overview
Templo Mayor was the main temple of Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec Empire, rediscovered in 1978 when utility workers stumbled on a massive carved stone. The double temple was dedicated to the war god Huitzilopochtli and the rain god Tlaloc, and excavations revealed seven layered construction phases. The on-site museum displays unearthed statues, offerings, and the famous circular relief of Coyolxauhqui. Admission MXN 100 (includes museum). Right beside the Zocalo, 3 minutes on foot from Metro Zócalo.
