Overview

Perched on a hill 2,325m above sea level, Chapultepec Castle is the only royal palace in the Americas, lavishly decorated in European style when Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlota lived there in the 1860s. It later served as the residence of President Porfirio Diaz, and today houses the National History Museum, with murals and artifacts spanning Mexico's independence war through the revolution. The view from the terrace over Paseo de la Reforma and the city skyline is one of Mexico City's best. Admission MXN 100 (free Sunday). Inside Chapultepec Park, a 15-minute uphill walk from Metro Chapultepec.
