Overview
At 6,961m, Aconcagua is the highest peak in South America and the highest outside the Himalayas. It sits in Aconcagua Provincial Park about 180km west of Mendoza and draws climbers from around the world each year. A full summit takes 2-3 weeks, but even trekking from the park entrance to base camp gives a strong sense of the Andes's grandeur. Access is restricted in winter, so the climbing season runs from November to March.
Opening Hours
Park open: November-March (climbing season), 08:00-18:00.
Travel Tips
Climbing requires altitude experience and serious preparation, and a park permit is mandatory. Even non-climbers can admire Aconcagua from the Horcones viewpoint.
