Overview
Built during the city's reconstruction after the 1861 earthquake, Plaza España was officially inaugurated in 1949 alongside a monument celebrating Spanish-Argentine friendship. Its benches and fountain are decorated with vivid Sevillian-style majolica tiles, and the central monument's reliefs depict seven scenes from the founding of Mendoza to San Martín's Andes campaign. Admission is free and the plaza is open at all times. It's within a 15-minute walk of downtown Mendoza, making it easy to pair with a visit to Plaza Independencia.
