Overview

Opened in 1993, this site museum sits directly atop the ruins of the original city of Mendoza, founded by Pedro del Castillo in 1561. Admission is free. It's open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sundays and holidays from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Located at Plaza Pedro del Castillo, it's an easy walk from downtown Mendoza. The museum's highlight is viewing the old colonial-era streets, preserved beneath glass floors, exactly as they stood before the 1861 earthquake destroyed the original city.
