Overview
Villavicencio Natural Reserve is a 72,000-hectare protected area about 50km north of Mendoza, and the source of Argentina's famous Villavicencio mineral water brand. The 365 winding curves of Ruta 52 climbing to 1,800m are famous, offering spectacular Andean views along the way. A 1940s Art Deco thermal hotel (currently closed) sits in the mountains, making for a unique photo opportunity. Condors, guanacos, and other Andean wildlife can be spotted. Free admission. About 1.5 hours by car from Mendoza.
Opening Hours
Daily 09:00-17:00 (winter 09:00-16:00).
Travel Tips
Accessible by rental car or tour only. The road is very winding, so prepare for motion sickness. An early morning start increases your chances of wildlife sightings.
