Overview
Barra Beach is Salvador's most popular beach, with the 1698 Santo Antônio da Barra lighthouse (Farol da Barra) as its iconic landmark. The lighthouse houses a naval museum, and the sunset viewed from the beach in front is considered Salvador's finest. Restaurants, bars, and cafes line both sides of the beach, and locals enjoy jogging, swimming, and surfing from early morning. During Carnival, the parade route runs along this beach.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (lighthouse museum: Tue-Sun 09:00-18:00).
Travel Tips
Sitting on the rocks in front of the lighthouse at sunset is a quintessential Salvador experience. Bring only minimal belongings to the beach.
