Overview
MAM Bahia (Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia) sits within the 17th-century Solar do Unhão estate complex and is Brazil's third-oldest museum of contemporary art. Architect Lina Bo Bardi led its 1960s restoration, and the wooden spiral staircase and traditional azulejo tiles remain striking features. Five exhibition rooms host rotating shows on modern art and Bahian culture, and the outdoor sculpture park (guided-tour access only) and the seaside terrace offer a beautiful sunset view. Every Friday evening the popular jazz series 'Jam no MAM' draws locals. Museum entry is free.
