Overview
Solar Ferrão (Palácio Ferrão) is a six-story colonial mansion in the Pelourinho district, now operating as a multi-museum cultural complex. Inside are four distinct collections: the Abelardo Rodrigues Museum (Catholic religious objects and Afro-Brazilian ritual items), an African art gallery, Walter Smetak's experimental instrument collection, and Emília Biancardi's collection of traditional percussion instruments. The narrow staircase leading through floor after floor of differently themed exhibits gives it a unique character, and being tucked away in the Pelourinho alleys, it's usually much quieter than the main sights.
