Overview
First built in 1873, the Lacerda Elevator is Brazil's oldest public lift and connects Salvador's upper and lower towns. The 72m-tall elevator carries about 30,000 people per day and is both a practical transit option and a tourist attraction. The upper viewpoint offers a sweeping view of the Bay of All Saints and the harbor. The 30-second ride between the two levels makes sightseeing routes very convenient.

Descending from upper to lower town offers the best bay view. The fare is very low, so consider riding both ways at different times to compare the views.
