Overview
Located on the grounds of the Augustinian abbey in Old Brno, this is the very site where the monk-scientist Gregor Mendel conducted his pea-hybridization experiments from 1856 to 1863, discovering the laws of heredity. Opened in 2002 under Masaryk University, the exhibition traces Mendel's life from childhood through his entry into the monastery, his pea experiments, and his election as abbot, with his original manuscript 'Experiments on Plant Hybridization' as the centerpiece. The garden preserves the foundations of his old greenhouse, evoking the atmosphere of the original experiments. Admission roughly CZK 90-120 (details may change). 3-minute walk from the Mendlovo náměstí tram stop.
