Overview
Built by Bohemian kings in the 13th century, the castle later served as one of Europe's most notorious prisons under the Habsburgs. Today it houses the Brno City Museum, and the casemate (underground dungeon) tour is especially popular. The views of Brno and the South Moravian plains from the ramparts are lovely, and summer evenings bring open-air cinema screenings and concerts. Admission about CZK 130 (combined ticket). About 15 minutes uphill on foot from Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square).
Opening Hours
10:00-18:00 (09:00-17:00 October-March; closed Mondays).
Travel Tips
The open-air summer cinema nights at the castle are wonderfully romantic. The casemate underground tour is a must-do.
