Overview
The main building of the Moravian Museum, founded by imperial decree of Franz II in 1817, occupies a Baroque palace built in 1613-1616 as the residence of Cardinal Dietrichstein. Used as exhibition space since 1911, it holds millions of items including the Venus of Dolní Věstonice — one of the world's oldest ceramic figurines — alongside minerals, fossils, folk artifacts, and relics from the Great Moravian era. Located on the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), it pairs well with a visit to the Parnassus Fountain. Permanent exhibition admission roughly CZK 70-120, varying by hall (details may change).
Travel Tips
Some upper-floor exhibits may have reduced hours in winter due to heating limitations, so summer visits are recommended. Combine with a look at the Parnassus Fountain outside.
