Reopened in 2021 in a brand-new building, the Hans Christian Andersen Museum brings the fairy-tale author's life and stories to life. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the structure uniquely connects above- and below-ground spaces for a uniquely immersive experience. Interactive exhibits dive into beloved tales like 'The Little Mermaid,' 'The Ugly Duckling,' and 'The Little Match Girl,' alongside Andersen's actual manuscripts and personal belongings.

10:00-18:00 Tuesday-Sunday (closed Mondays, but open daily June-August).

Travel Tips

Kengo Kuma's architecture is a draw in itself. Andersen's birthplace is nearby and well worth combining with your visit.
