Overview
First documented in 1295, Sankt Hans Kirke was originally founded by the Knights Hospitaller (Order of St. John). The current building, rebuilt in 1636 and restored twice since, features red brick and large Gothic windows. Inside, an altarpiece depicting the Passion by celebrated Danish religious painter Carl Bloch draws art history interest. The church is also known as the site of Hans Christian Andersen's baptism, making it a natural stop alongside Andersen-related sights. Free admission.
