Odense

오덴세

Hans Christian Andersen's hometown — a city with a storybook atmosphere. The Kengo Kuma-designed Andersen Museum, the moat castle of Egeskov, and the Funen Village open-air museum offer fairy-tale experiences. Street decorations and festivals inspired by Andersen's stories are found throughout — an easy 1.5-hour train ride from Copenhagen for a day trip.

Best Season

May-September is ideal. The August Andersen Festival brings a wealth of fairy-tale-themed events.

Budget

Daily budget around 130,000-250,000 KRW (accommodation 70,000-130,000, meals 40,000-60,000, transport and entry 20,000-40,000).

Transport

About 1.5 hours by DSB train from Copenhagen. The city is small enough to explore on foot or by bicycle. Prepaid SIMs are available at the airport (Lebara, Lycamobile, etc., about DKK 80-150/EUR 11-20 per week). Denmark is nearly cashless — card and mobile payments are the norm. Service is included in restaurant bills; tipping is optional.

Visa

Korean passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 90 days under the Schengen Agreement.

Safety

A very safe small city. Watch for cyclists when walking on bike lanes.
