Overview
This Gothic cathedral houses the remains of King Canute IV (St. Canute), murdered in 1086. Construction began in the 12th century and finished in the 15th. Canonized by the Pope in 1100, the king's remains rest in a glass case in the crypt. The 5m-tall gilded altarpiece by Claus Berg (16th century) is considered one of Northern Europe's finest late-Gothic altars. Free admission. Next to City Hall Square in downtown Odense.
