Acropolis Museum

Acropolis, Athens

Overview

Opened in 2009, this cutting-edge museum displays over 4,000 artifacts from the Acropolis hill in chronological order. Designed by Bernard Tschumi, the building is an architectural masterpiece in its own right, with transparent floors revealing the excavation site beneath. The third-floor Parthenon Gallery is oriented identically to the temple, allowing visitors to view original sculptures in their original spatial context. Five of the original Caryatids are also preserved here. Admission about EUR 15 (winter discount available). 1-minute walk from Metro Acropoli (Line 2).

Opening Hours

08:00-20:00 (until 22:00 on Fridays; winter 09:00-17:00; closed Mondays)

Travel Tips

Visit before or after the Acropolis itself for much deeper context. The museum stays open late on Fridays, and the second-floor restaurant offers nighttime Acropolis views.
