Overview
A Big Five game drive in the Maasai Mara is the essence of an East African safari. With a guide-driver in a 4WD safari vehicle, you traverse the savanna in search of lion prides, hunting cheetahs, leopards resting in trees, elephant family processions, and the rare black rhino. The 06:00 dawn drive coincides with peak animal activity, and sipping warm chai while watching sunrise on the plains is a safari highlight. The 16:00 afternoon drive turns the savanna golden for photography. Full-day drives venture deeper with packed lunches. Drive costs are usually included in lodge packages ($150-300/day). Travel is by safari vehicle.
