Overview
Unlike most Rift Valley lakes which are alkaline, Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake, home to hippos and diverse fish species. Boat tours allow close-up views of hippo pods, and the lake is a birdwatching destination with over 400 recorded species. Nearby Crescent Island offers a unique walking safari where visitors can see giraffes and zebras on foot.
Travel Tips
Early morning or late afternoon boat tours are best for hippo sightings. The Crescent Island walking safari requires a separate fee.
