Overview
Olare Motorogi Conservancy is a roughly 140 sq km private reserve directly north of the main Maasai Mara, run by Maasai landowners as a model conservation initiative. Only five safari vehicles are allowed in at a time, giving near-exclusive sightings of lions and leopards, and night drives and walking safaris - both banned in the main reserve - are permitted here. Access is limited to guests of luxury camps like Mara Plains and Mara Toto, so prices are higher, but for travelers seeking the most private and immersive safari, this is the top choice. Conservancy fees are included in camp packages ($200-400/day). Just north of the main reserve.
