Overview
Mount Longonot National Park protects a dormant stratovolcano in the Great Rift Valley, its last major eruption dating to the 1860s. A popular day hike climbs to the crater rim, roughly 2,776m above sea level, and continues around the entire rim - about a 7km loop - with sweeping views of Lake Naivasha, the Rift Valley floor, and the forested crater interior. It's a favored day trip for hikers based in Nairobi or Naivasha.
Travel Tips
The full crater rim loop takes about 3-4 hours, so bring plenty of water and snacks. There is almost no shade, so sun protection is essential.
