Overview
Built by Emperor Diocletian to support the upper floors of the palace, these underground halls preserve their original Roman-era layout almost intact, making them among the best-preserved ancient Roman substructures in Europe. Used as a dumping ground by residents until the mid-20th century, they were excavated and turned into a museum displaying Roman artifacts and everyday tools like olive oil presses. Filmed as the dungeon where Daenerys Targaryen's dragons were chained in HBO's Game of Thrones, it has become a must-visit for fans worldwide. Admission about EUR 8.
